check this out:
http://tinyurl.com/4d3b3e It's an pdf about the tiger study in Panna. It says that tigers were never weighed. The estimated weight for Madla (male 125) was 220-230kg Male 91 (another dominant male) was estimated at 240kg. |

Some of the biggest tiger weights I could find:
320 kg tiger killed in Nepal (Smythies) 318 kg tiger/tigress (an hermaphrodite!) killed in the Nilgiris (Goring-Jones) 292 kg tiger killed in Kumaon (EH Morbey) 288 kg tiger killed by the Maharajah of Nepal 260 kg+ tiger (radio collared in Chitwan in 1984) 260 kg tiger (male 105) 258 kg tiger (radio collared in Nagarahole) |

Some of the biggest lion weights I could find:
Got these from: http://big_game.at.infoseek.co.jp/bigcat/lion.html 284 kg - 280 kg - 277 kg - 272 kg - 264 kg I think these were all shot by hunters. In Face of the tiger dr. Mcdougal said that the largest tigers are bigger than the largest lions. I think this is certainly true. McDougal said that the average male tiger would weigh about 450 pounds. Which is larger (to my knowledge) than the average weight of lions. Freak specimens of course can always happen (the inbred Ngorongoro lions being an example). But this ofcourse also goes for tigers (some of the huge males in Chitwan and in Kaziranga). |

I think lion fans should just face it that tigers are bigger. You should listen to Bons when he said it still doesn't decide the face off with which I
agree with him. It still doesn't mean the tiger will win even though myself I favour the tiger. But the fact remains tigers are bigger.

here`s a picture of b2, he looks nowhere near 250 kg to me;
http://www.wildventures.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=2177 "Siberians with a similarly rich diet might well be larger than the Crater lions." he said MIGHT be larger. that`s just an opinion. however, the fact still remains that the crater lions had similar, if not equal, chest girth measurements, and those may have well been the upper limit for siberian tigers. and he speaks of bergmann`s rule, but, you should note that the largest land animals come from africa.....in which lions have to constantly deal with drought. plus, they have more competition than tigers. lions have to constantly deal with, not one, but a whole group or clan of enemies, while the tiger usually faces just one advarsary. and, even then, the competitor tries to stay out of the tiger`s way. for single animals, it`s better to aviod confrontation than to get into a battle with an equally dangerous enemy. even the single predators like leopards can still pose a threat to a lion`s cubs. in the wild, male tigers play no role in the rearing of their young, and may not even recognize them, so they have less at stake. also, in the wilds of india, the tiger population might be 1 tiger for every 20 square km. so this means that the chance of accidental invasion is decreased....as a way to prevent constant confict. lions, who live in prides and must share every meal, don`t allow trespassers in their territory...and, living in such close prozimity with other prides which may overlap, fighting is much more likely. so, of course, in such a violent society, tensions can be high....and they often take such out on other pride members. being put in more aggressive situations, lions, who`s brains have come to see such aggressive behavior as 'normal', adapted more testosterone and a much greater level of ferocity....in which the tiger can only occassionaly compare. |

Exactly 2008 , this guy is a nut , to say the least . B2 looks nowhere near 250 kgs . in that pict he provides ? What the %@+% does he weigh ? Is he only 3
feet long ? Is he inflicted with dwarfism ? The footage of him crossing the road was perhaps of the most massive wild tiger i have ever seen ! Bons concurs as
well . Any info or description of him put him as a magnificent specimen , massive and huge , a conservative 250 , PERHAPS 300 kg . tiger . He is even more
impressive thaN madla , perhaps even hairyfoot . This chump is a complete fool and proves it with such gems as '' here`s a picture of b2, he looks
nowhere near 250 kg to me; '' IDIOT !

"Siberians with a
similarly rich diet might well be larger than the Crater lions." do you see the fallacy in that statement. how could tigers, with a SIMILARLY rich diet, weigh more? if the diet, in terms of food consumption is similar, shouldn`t the weight of both animals also be similar? proportionately speaking, tigers have no advantage....neither having longer bones or a wider frame....which can be easily noticeable in those links i provided of a lion and tiger`s skeletol structure. "but there is a common trend for animals living in colder, harsher climates to be larger than their tropical counterparts ("Bergmann's rule") so it makes intuitive sense that Siberian tigers would be bigger than lions" that`s just it, they don`t have harsher climates....as some claim, and this should be obvious, as the biggest land animals come from africa. and, they only CONCLUDED that tigers were bigger.....which does little to prove your point. did you know that the largest human weighed 1600 lbs? so, by your standards, i guess that means humans are bigger than lions or tigers? "This guy sends email to many experts, but rejects their answers if he doesn't like them. " i rejected them because i believed they were wrong. note also that most of them failed to produce any 'evidence' to support there statements, while i gave both a reasonable explaination and provided links for my statements. and the allexperts site clearly says that the information you receive is not professional. note that, even when i presented evidence to the contrary, most still didn`t agree with me. simply 'stating that tigers are bigger does little to prove your point. note, also, that my 'evidences' were based on actual, proven data. for example, listen to this, from the allexperts site, in which i wrote to the 'expert', and he disagreed with my staements: this is from me; an increase in testosterone means that energy is increased and, by contrast, your need for pysical activity. so, your POTENTIAL/greater need for higher muscle mass is stimulated simply through greater NEED of it. in other words, more testosterone means more physical activity, so the need for greater muscle mass is increased. by contrast, fat is reduced, which means that there`s greater space for bone developement. increased activity means a decrease in fat levels. women, with relatively greater fat levels, have comparatively smaller bones...due to the less available space; "The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology reports on a new study out of the University of Missouri School of Medicine implicating excess body fat with decreased bone mass."...just as i said. http://www.lookcut.com/articles/more-fat-less-bone-density.html now, the 'expert'; "Your last sentence is wrong as well. Any hyena in the group can hunt as they like, often alone hiding kills in water without the rest of the clan knowing. And nomadic hyenas (generally males) have to take care of themselves alone. Why is this? Because female hyenas have six times more testosterone then males.".....now, does that even make sense? the guy basically says, in his posts, that female hyenas develope greater testosterone levels......without much need for it! however, he failed to realize why they developed more testosterone in the first place, and the effects testosterone has on the body. testosterone increases the action of the fast twich muscles of your body. also, the hemogobin in your body is increased. this means that you have, through continuis repition, a greater potential and so a higher likelyhood of greater size and strength. like people who get injections of steriods.....it`s only effective if given some form of physical stimulation. does that make sense? he had also said that lions have more testoserone than tigers, but that it effects other animals differently, which is why tigers are hmm, hmmm, bigger than lions. then, to prove his point...the guy mentions bull sharks, which are said to have the highest degree of testosterone but is not the biggest animal in the world. however, the reason for such is simple; it did not grow to larger sizes due to the fact that, at it`s current size, it is, due to it`s extremely efficient design, as big as it needs to be. |
